  2. Beka! Great question...but it becomes apparent at the end of Act I, when they first encounter each other that they do not know who the other is until then. And I'm afraid that there is no answer to your question. Any thoughts as to why this might be?

  3. I think this might be because since Juliet is clearly a female she wont really be "in line" to take over control of the family. in that time period the guys of the family normally were the ones who later on took control. therefore, maybe she was kept in the dark about alot of the feuds between some of the familes. and Romeo knew so he would have a heads up later on.

  4. well it might be because Romeo is a little more concerned about himself than his family's feud's and what Shaye said about Juliet being kept in the dark, but at the same time, the text makes it sound like the montague's and the capulets are like death enemies and that would be weird for them not to at least know who everyone is.

  5. I agree with what Shaye said. I also think that maybe since they are both kind of young, maybe they just haven't had the TIME to meet each other?

  6. I agree with all of you but maybe their parents didnt tell them about each other because they dont want them to know anything about the other family except that they should hate them.

  9. Okay Ms. Tester, when did Romeo and Juliet come out and say they were going to sneak away? Did they? I'm confused. Not quite sure if we just inferred that or they actually said it because I can't find it...

  10. did romeo just walk over to juliet and say he wanted to kiss her or did they have a little conversation first? and does romeos parents not know that he is at this party? and if they dont know and they found out would he get in trouble?

  11. Dalton and Summer! Let's see if I can cover both of yours in one response. From my recollection, it doesn't say in the dialogue or stage directions that they are going to "sneak away." They just seem to make their way toward each other and it isn't in the presence of anyone else. Lucky them. Anyway, once they do meet, the attraction is so strong that they can't keep from kissing each other, not even long enough to introduce themselves. There is no conversation prior, just attraction--something drawing them to each other. And yes, Capulet knows, because Tybalt told him, but apparently he is not anywhere near them at this time. As far as the trouble, I can't be sure. What do you think?

  12. Ms. Tester, you where right, taking these books home were a load of help. Ik I just started to work on the blog here at 10 pm but I have been busy since Friday and it really makes things easier when you have these books to help!

  13. Well, answering Ms. Tester, I think the nurse has a feeling something is up. But I don't think she will tell Capulet or Lady Capulet... yet. I'm thinking the nurse knows something is going on but she doesn't know for sure what it is so she's hanging back and seeing what happens.

  14. I agree with Dalton. I think the nurse just wants Juliet to be happy, so she's just going to wait and see how happy romeo makes juliet or something before interfering in any way, or telling anyone.

  15. Not necessarily a question, more of an observation. Both the Montague's and Capulet's follow the same church if both Romeo and Juliet have the same friar, but I'm curious as to whether all, or at least the vast majority, of the people in Verona follow the same religion. And more specifically, which sect of christianity is it?

  16. In response to Ashley's question, they are obviously of the Catholic denomination. And Verona, being a smaller town back then, probably only had one Catholic church. Plus, back then, the Catholics struck so much fear into other religions by means of persecution that no other religions would have dared set up a place of worship, in fear of being torched for example. I'm very suprised they didn't know each other before the party scene, but that's just one of many things Shakespeare doesn't entirely explain.
